About the Project
Student Learning Compendium is designed to act handy to the teacher in the classroom session. This application has the capability to operate a classroom via multipoint mouse application. The easy to use admin panel enables the administrator to create custom educational contents in a convenient manner. Facilitated with the attendance provision and its tracking with the help of MS-Access database, this application can also generate powerful reports based on the collected data. Thus, beginning the class session with an attendance, the classroom goes through the teacher session and then ends up with a Multipoint Quiz as an evaluation of that class.
Scope
Student Learning Compendium is targeted to the students of rural area, where children get excited, even when they get to touch a mouse. Under a scenario where frequency of computers is very less, student learning compendium aims to provide an overall package suitable for a Digitally Interactive Classroom. Students can get access to computer system directly by interacting with the mouse device. Also they will be able to confirm the presence in their class on their own. And at the end session of class, an evaluation quiz helps to add some flavor to the application, because this is the moment where students will compete among themselves to get the question answered correctly.
Features ü Provision of attendance, i.e.: each student will have access to a mouse by which they will be able to interact with the built application
ü A fully customizable classroom session, subject-wise, branched with chapters and sub-chapters.
ü A fully customizable dynamic Quiz, based on the Quiz chosen by the teacher according to the subject of the ongoing class.
ü A full-fledged administration panel. The integration of this admin panel along with Rich Text enabled chapter contents will somehow try to reflect the feature of existing slideshow technologies.
ü As a bonus application, A multipoint Sketch Application is also included where a maximum of 4 users can paint on a split screen ink canvas.
Limitations
ü This application assumes the software support of the multiple mice but the viability of more than 20 or 25 mice could be terrifying as the network of wires/cables of 25+ mice would create a mess.
ü The administration panel only provides the facility to add the contents but not modify them.
ü Meanwhile, the teacher’s session does not seem to be an interactive one, but a solution to this problem is presented as further enhancements.
ü This application is dependent on MS-Access database, but originally at the core level, it was meant to collaborate with the XML Document as data source. The use of MS-Access database makes this application platform specific or more precisely application dependent. As said before, we do not expect a powerful machine in rural areas which could easily run office packages.
ü The free sketch application was conceptually targeted to be used by a maximum number of students at a time but it was limited to a maximum number of 4 users.
ü No provision yet for a situation where the number of students in a classroom is more than the number of mice available.
Further Enhancement ü Improvement of the administration panel creating a suitable environment to modify the created contents.
ü Changing the looks and feel of the application to grab the psychological attention from students.
ü Assigning a unique “StudentId” to the “Attended” user which remains same throughout the runtime.
ü In order to make the classroom session more and more interactive, a button called “ASK QUESTION” will be added which will alert the teacher about the student’s attempt to make a query.
ü In the Quiz Session, a reporting scheme after the completion of every question and at the end, the overall summary report.
ü Further improvement on the Multipoint sketch application, with the advancements in allowing the user of chose custom colors as background or foreground colors.
