| About the Project Sometimes you spend a lot of time for your ideas, but are completely blank. But sometimes, ideas do come quick, and sudden when it’s really needed. Kids Quirks is themed at such an idea and contribute somehow to students develop such ideas. This application presents students a story. A story, in which there is a boy named Ramu, whose parents have gone out of home for a couple of days. So, he is alone at home. The thieves, ignorant about Ramu’s presence at his home, plan a theft at Ramu’s house, because as for their information, no one’s there at Ramu’s house. Unfortunate for the thieves and fortunate for Ramu, he was passing by the street when he overhears the thieves hatching their evil plan. Now, it’s up to him and his friends to conjure up something by which they can confront these thieves and teach them a good lesson. So, Kids Quirks is all about this quirky situation, the idea Ramu and his friends develop to handle this situation. As for the students participating it, they can learn and enjoy the presented situation and participate to collect what Ramu needs to make his plan successful. It’s about participating in the presented situation, utilizing locally available resources and catch the thieves and work as a team. Scope This application has been developed for the students of remote areas where they find it difficult to study English. Especially, English does become difficult for students when it is a foreign language, when all other subjects are taught in their mother tongue or when there is no good tutor. So, this application is meant to be a simple, visual and interesting means of understanding a situation, developing creativity and becoming familiar with new words, which they come across when they are looking for what Ramu needs in this game to confront the thieves. Students can be presented with such type of application once a week or once a month so that learning becomes more easy, interesting and fun. This application would be suitable for the students of grade 4 or 5. Features ü Children friendly User Interface ü Complete interaction through images and storyboards ü Maximum participation of 4 students at a time Limitations ü The storyboards has not been added to the program yet ü As the application deals with images and parts of it needed to be clicked by the players, it is rigid and it doesn’t allow customization from the user part. So, the learning material can only be taken forward the way it has been designed. Teachers cannot make changes to it the way they want. ü It is not yet a complete solution which can be practically taken to schools as a learning solution, it’s just a part which shows how a collection of similar stuffs can make a complete solution. As for now, it can only guide how one class hour can be covered with one application like this. Further Enhancement ü The addition of storyboards is the most essential component that needs to be done, which will be posted very soon in the next version. ü User Experience can be improved a lot by adding highlight effect or some similar effects on to the objects which are already collected or found by the user. This is a minor factor which can have a distinct effect on the game. ü Something like a quiz can be added at the end which helps the students to review the whole story and the words that they have learnt during the process ü As it has been stated in the limitations section, this application is not yet a solution. It just presents an idea how weekly or monthly engagement of students in such interactive classes can help students learn more and develop creativity. ü Actually, a collection of similar applications can be integrated into a single solution which can then be integrated in the school curriculum as well, like an extra learning activity. With 5-6 such applications made into a solution with the feature to automatically update and integrate new applications, (through a CD or through internet), this can prove to be very effective application. ü This could be the biggest challenge. Actually if this application could be so modified that teachers can actually add their own pictures to it, and make the parts of image actually clickable, the application could have tremendous flexibility. This also requires the program to allow the users with drawing paths of their own and casting them into multipoint button at the runtime. Don’t know if this can be done or not, but it would be a very interesting thing to look for. Download Project (Source Code) | |
