Microsoft MDP Nepal is going to organize a Tech Mela for the IT community of Nepal on March 29 & 30, 2010 (2066 Chaitra 16 & 17) Tuesday and Wednesday at the Russian Center for Science & Culture, Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu. The objective of the event is to enhance and exchange knowledge about information technology and Microsoft products and technologies to the community.

 

For the first time, Microsoft MDP Nepal will be partnering with Russian Centre of Science & Culture to offer this event to the Nepalese community, whereby the space and facilities will be provided by Russian Center for Science & Culture and the event will be run and managed by Microsoft.

 

About Russian Center of Science & Culture:  The Russian Centre of Science and Culture has been operating in Nepal since 1979 and it is celebrating its 30 years. The chief goal of the activities undertaken by the Centre is aimed at promoting friendly relations and co-operation between Russia and Nepal in the field of science, culture, language, education and technology. Microsoft MDP Nepal aims to get the attention of the people of various backgrounds to the Microsoft products and to bring about a high-end conference on technologies that have never been discussed or trained in the past in Nepal, primarily those that are going to be released in the year 2010.

 

Activities around this Tech Mela:

  • A major inauguration by a prominent figure will be organized in order to bring the importance of this event to the media and others concerned.

  • Presentations of the finalists of Microsoft MultiPoint Challenge and the announcement of the awards for the winners.

  • 6 products will be featured for half day each of deep-down tech briefing.  A lot of this curriculum will be gotten from Microsoft Learning First Look Clinics. Certificates will be provided for each person who has attended these sessions.

  • SQL Saturday: SQL Server & BI solutions will be focused.

  • We will invite student tech clubs from various colleges to come and showcase their projects to encourage them to be innovative and creative with the solutions that they create.

  • As part of our commitment to the government of Nepal, Microsoft is providing IT Academy to 10 premier engineering colleges free of costs.  We would be launching the IT Academy at this event.

  • The announcement of the Microsoft Innovation Center to be established in Nepal will be done at this event, with a panel discussion of the stakeholders.

  • A high level panel discussion will be organized in order to initiate the discussion of how to align the students with the requirements of the industry and how to grow the local software economy.

  • After the pilot project of using laptops in Yagyamati School of Kapan last academic year, we are now rolling out the learning of all subjects into the private schools, so that the teaching of Science, Maths, English and other subjects can now be thru laptops and every student will be carrying a laptop to school to learn. This is in collaboration with Intel, Educomp and Microsoft.

  • In order to encourage creativity and imagination of students, a digital photo competition will be conducted and where all the photographs would be displayed at the digital photo exhibition around the event for these three days.

  • A small focused exhibition would also be created whereby various colleges, partners and other stakeholders will be requested to exhibit their offerings.

  • There will be a lot of emphasis put on Certifications and to ensure that the community is aware of the career campaign currently being run by Microsoft Learning. Prometric test sites will also be encouraged to be present  here along with the CPLSes.

1.DELEGATE: Every delegate to the Tech Mela will receive the t-shirt in this website along with a certificate of participation. Cost of Participation for the Delegate is NPR 1,500 (Nepalese Rupees fifteen hundred only).

Pinal Dave is a Microsoft SQL Server MVP actively involved in community service in India through his technology blog and website SQLAuthority.com. He proficient Principal Database Architect, Developer, Administrator and Project Manager specializing in SQL Server Programming with over 7 years of hands-on experience. He holds a degree in Masters of Science (Computer Networks) and has accomplished a number of certifications including MCDBA and MCAD (.NET). He is an expert in SQL Server 2008 / SQL Server 2005 technologies. At present, he leads two user groups - Gandhinagar SQL Server User Group and Ahmedabad SQL Server User Group. He has also been awarded Regional Mentor for PASS Asia.

        Community Chautari is one of the tracks dedicated to Community Leaders to present their technical knowledge and skills. As the name suggests this is the place for all where the community leaders will be presenting on various technologies that could be beneficial to the student community. 

        This track will run for 2 days. There will be 7 sessions each day. Every session will be of 45 Minutes where you would present on the subject matter you have selected. You may present as well as do a demonstration.  The Community Chautari can accommodate about 100 people at a time.The majority of  audience type would be IT students who are passionate about technology. You are also requested to promote your session through various means like social media, emails, blogs so that are maximum number of participation in your session.

We all own cameras and are taking literally hundreds if not thousands of photographs, irrespective whether it is taken with a high-end DSLR or the camera in our entry-level mobile phone or even from our web cam.  Click2Win is a simple fun competition to showcase the few best pictures from your digital photograph album to showcase the creativity of our generation. 

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE: Please upload your pictures to this group and also send the high-res version of the same photo to click@unlimit.com along with your name, your college name, email address and mobile number. 

SHOWCASE:  This photo contest is part of the TECH MELA that is going to be held  at the Russian Cultural Center March 29-30, 2010 and the photos will be showcased at the event when the thousands of visitors will be able to view it. PROMOTION: Once you have participated, kindly ask all your friends who are on Facebook to go to your picture and vote for your picture by clicking the ‘like’ button on your picture. The picture that has the most ‘likes’ votes will have high chances of winning.

THE JUDGMENT: The judgment basis is  the number of likes you get on Facebook, a high percentage will be given to the votes you receive at the venue of  Tech Mela and the final votes will be with the Organizing Committee.

PRIZES: This competition is organized for more fun and to showcase our digital photography skills, but there will be some good prizes which will be announced later. So what are you waiting for??? The faster you upload, more the chances of your winning.  No racial or gender discrimination, violence, pornography, sexually explicit or anti-social elements in the pictures will be tolerated and only pictures that you have taken yourself will be eligible to be submitted in this competition.

 A gaming competition is going to be organized at the TechMela. The games to be included in the competition are:

Age Of Empires
1)Each team consists of two players and one as substitute.
2)The game will be played for 1 hour.
3)Winners will be chosen by points obtained in the game.
4)Map will be "Random land map."
5)The charge per team is Rs.100.

 

Counter Strike
1) Each team consists 5 members and 1 substitute.
2)The game will be played for rate to 16,i.e total round map is 31 and the winning team of the first 16 matches is the winner.
3)For the first 15 matches one team will play as terrorist and another as Counter-Terrorist,then they will be interchanged.
4)Coin toss will determine the choosing of Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist.
5)The map that will be played on is de-dust 2.
6) The registered team will be divided into groups and the first round will be played for the league.
7)Head-phones,Keyboards and mouse will be provided but the players are allowed to bring their own too.
8)The charge for each team is Rs.500.
